macOS with a Cloud Drive

MacOS is one of the most important desktop operating systems. In terms of market share, it is behind Windows desktop operating systems and ahead of Linux-based desktops. The simplicity of the user interface, the innovative macOS design and the high quality of MacBooks and iMacs are appreciated by many users. Having a cloud drive on your macOS makes it even easier to access your company's file servers and your cloud file servers. It increases the productivity of mobile workers and enhances the value of your Mac.

Simplify User Training

Every mobile worker knows about local drive mapping to access a central file server. A cloud drive provides the same user experience in the Mac Finder and saves time and money on user training.

Reduce Costs

A cloud drive supports on-demand access, so MacBooks with smaller SSD drives can see the full scope of the shared cloud drive without storing 100% of the cloud drive's content locally. It doesn't force mobile workers to upgrade their MacBooks and saves money.

Best of Both Worlds

Combines the security and control of Windows file servers with the ease of use and productivity of the cloud with cloud drive access.

Permission Control

Has a simpler permission migration and configuration strategy than SharePoint, Dropbox or Google Drive - inherits them directly from the file server.

Endpoint Protection

It is easier to protect a cloud drive mapping than to protect a local synchronization folder. The local folder resides on the hard drive, and if the device is stolen, the files and folders are in the wrong hands. In contrast, a mapped cloud drive is virtually unplugged when it is not active.

File Locking

With a mapped cloud drive, file locking is possible, while a local synchronization folder cannot provide file locking.

macOS Cloud Drive Client Agent Features

Once the Mac client agent software is installed on the users' Mac, a cloud drive will appear in the Mac Finder like an external drive with the following features.

ON-DEMAND ACCESS

The user sees the files and folders, but the files are downloaded only when they are required, so the local disk can be much smaller than the entire contents of the file server.

FILE LOCKING

Automatic file locking locks files when the user is actively working on them. Manual file locking is also available to check out files and check them back in after changes.

VERSION CONTROL

For files that are modified, previous versions of the file are saved in case they are useful at a later time. Version history and retention policies are available.

OFFLINE FILES

Files and folders that are frequently used can be marked as favorites for offline access. For files marked as offline, they are pre-fetched to the local cache for later use.

RANSOMWARE PROTECTION

Detect suspicious activity and block ransomware on endpoint devices. When an unusual frequency of file changes is detected, the protection mechanism kicks in to lock the device.

RELIABLE TRANSFER

Unlike VPN connections that can interrupt file transfer if the underlying Internet connection is unstable, additional reliability features have been built in to overcome Internet disruptions.

DIFFERENTIAL UPLOAD

For large files with minor local changes, binary differential blocks are calculated and the individual blocks are uploaded instead of the entire file to save bandwidth and time.

ENDPOINT ENCRYPTION

For files that are in the local file cache, encryption is available to protect these files that have been downloaded to the local cache. Without a successful login, these files remain encrypted at rest and protected.

FORENSIC TRACE

Audit traces and file change history logs are available to analyze who changed which files on the local machine at what time, or moved files and folders from which source to which destination.

Folder Synchronization

Cloud drive and folder synchronization work hand in hand to provide additional business continuity features for business users. Sync the local "Documents" folder to the corporate cloud file servers, or simply edit it offline and with endpoint backup.

Check out the folder synchronization features below!

Offline Editing

Local files can be read and modified when the MacBook is not online.

Version Control

Version control can be used to resolve conflicts when editing offline.

Endpoint Backup

Folders from the MacBooks can be backed up to central cloud file servers.

Cloud Backup

Shared folders on the file server network can be backed up to cloud storage.

Reverse Synchronization

Files and folders in the cloud can be synchronized inversely with local storage.

Conflict Detection

The synchronization folder is subject to version control for conflict detection.
